Gold Star Listing Associate University Chaplain and Protestant Campus Minister
Colgate University
Hamilton, NY
Category: Senior Pastor
Posted on: May 06, 2008

Job Description:
To apply, go to https://careers.colgate.edu

The Protestant Campus Minister coordinates Protestant life on campus, including serving as pastor of University Church (the ecumenical Christian worshiping community on campus), collaborating and advising various campus Protestant Christian groups and supporting the spiritual and religious needs of the broader University community. The ministry of the chaplain will include conducting services, preaching, and organizing the various ministries within University Church and the Protestant Community as a whole.
The Protestant Campus Minister will also work within Colgate's Office of the Chaplains, which is committed to offering leadership, personal assistance and advocacy for all of the university's religious communities. Currently the Protestant Campus Minister advises the Muslim Student Association and several other chaplaincy organizations and it is possible that the new chaplain will be expected to support multiple religious groups as well. The Protestant Campus Minister will work closely with both the Catholic and Jewish Chaplains to support religious and spiritual life on campus. The Protestant Campus Minister will report directly to the University Chaplain, a role currently held by the Catholic Chaplain. The Chaplaincy is part of the Dean of the College Division and candidates should be prepared to support the implementation of the educational vision of the college.
Required: M.Div. or comparable degree, denominationally recognized ordination, and pastoral experience.
Desirable: Experience in an ecumenical campus ministry setting.

The ideal candidate should be energetic and enthusiastic about working with students and staff from a wide-variety of religious backgrounds, and should be comfortable supporting the faith and practice of a diverse community. She/he should have strong oral, public and written communication skills; strong counseling skills; demonstrated commitment to and skill in fostering community and collaboration among diverse constituencies; administrative skills and strategic planning experience in an ecumenical context are preferred.
